Just a Carpenter's Son

I'm currently studying The New Testament and am looking for all the stories of Jesus, and thinking about how I could take the stories of Him and apply them to my life.

In Matthew Chapter 13 it says...

54. And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?

55. Is this not the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?

They were astonished! They wondered, how can this man, who is just a carpenters son have this wisdom? And how can he possibly do this mighty works when he is JUST a carpenters son?

Jesus didn't let the "label" he was given define him. He didn't listen when they said, "Aren't you just a carpenter's son?" Instead he listened to his eternal Father in Heaven who told him of many other things he could do because of his divine nature. The Lord had plans for him.

If the Lord had plans for Jesus, don't you think the Lord has plans for you? Just because you aren't the Savior of the world doesn't mean that the Lord doesn't need you. He does! He needs you. He needs you right where you are. To love his children, to build his kingdom and to improve yourself to become more and more holy as your life goes on.

You're not JUST a mother, or JUST a writer. You're not JUST a hairstylist, or JUST a waitress. You're so much more than that. Your labels don't define you. Let the plan your Heavenly Father has for you define you. He has so much more planned for you than you can even imagine.

Gordon B. Hinckley once said, "When referring to a person, never use the word 'just'."

I've always loved the thought that Heavenly Father knows each of us by name and He is the only one who knows our heart and intentions. Even the worst person in the world, is still loved and known by a higher being, that's pretty amazing. I was asked to give a talk a couple Sundays from now on lessons learned from the New Testament soooooooo I might add this idea to my talk :)
